Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, Do You Prefer to Resolve Problems or to Prolong Them?

Handling Department of Education’s Unvalidated Demands and Turning Problems into Opportunities

Why does the U.S. Department of Education produce so little value for the vast amount of resources that this institution consumes?

  • One reason is that the Department of Education is managed so, that this institution is good at creating problems and prolonging them, but is not good at resolving problems.
  • Another reason is that people at the Department of…

How the Department of Education Creates Documents by Mixing and Matching PDF Files

Below is a copy of another letter and FOIA request sent to Department of Education FOIA Service Center. This letter describes how the Department of Education employees create documents from PDF files without existence of the original documents. In the process the Department of Education employees mix PDF files that could belong to anybody and do not contain any person's identifying information, together with PDF files that do contain identifying information.…

Is It Acceptable that the Department of Education Operates Like Organized Crime – Mafia?

Below is an open letter to the Department of Justice and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Dear reader, I am asking you now the same question that I am asking Attorney General in this letter: based on how the Department of Education uses extortion, document fabrication, bullying and harassment, do you agree that the closest analogy is organized crime – mafia?

Do you personally find such operating practices acceptable?

I…

(Some of) Department of Education's Systemic Problems

The open letter below lists some of the problems that the Department of Education as a system has. If we look at the Department of Education as a system that is supposed to benefit traditional students, adult learners and employers, we will most likely find many more problem areas. The systemic problems listed below are specific to one case. However, the problems listed here may very well be relevant to many people. We don't know how many people over the years have paid to the…

What is OGIS Mission Under Alina Semo Management?

Office of Government Information Services, or OGIS, is supposed to be Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) ombudsman. I contacted OGIS with a request for assistance with Department of Education FOIA process. I received a response from OGIS current director Alina Semo.

Based on the actual case addressed here, it's hard to say, whether the current OGIS director is very poorly informed about how the Department of Education and its business partners actually…

Department of Education, Mail Fraud, Honest Service Fraud and Other Problems

We have a case here, where the Department of Education created consumer lending and borrowing records years after a student graduated from college, without existence of any actual lending and borrowing transactions and corresponding documents. Subsequently, the Department of Education started using these internal records as if the records were based on actual, real life lending and borrowing transactions.

This can work, if the former student believes what the…

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos – Uninformed Victim or Extortionist Ringleader?

I believe that it is the responsibility of public institutions, such as Department of Education, to identify and resolve problems instead of creating and prolonging them. This is especially true when the problems are serious by nature, such as usage of extortion, document fabrication, involuntary servitude, bullying and harassment. In the case that is being addressed here these problems, which have been documented on StopExtortion.org, seem to be rooted in the Department of…

U.S. Department of Education Freedom of Information Denial Service Center Odyssey Continues, Part 2

Based on my experience that is documented on StopExtortion.org, I can say that the U.S. Department of Education Freedom of Information (FOIA) Service Center is knowingly and systematically avoiding producing accurate and relevant FOIA request related information. It is in the business interests of the Department of Education to do so. Thus, there are obvious strong motivational forces in place for the Department of Education employees not to comply with the Freedom of…

U.S. Department of Education Freedom of Information Denial Service Center Odyssey Continues

Sadly, it seems indeed that the U.S. Department of Education Freedom of Information (FOIA) Service Center should be renamed Department of Education Freedom of Information Denial Service Center. At least in my case this FOIA Service Center has little to do with freedom of information and much to do with denying to honestly provide accurate information that would help to move the case forward.

As I state below, the longer this dispute continues, the stronger…

Complaint #2 Against Action Financial Services, LLC Collection Agency False Advertising and Breach of Contract (with Oregon Attorney General)

In higher education related areas we currently have a system where a collection agency can make monetary demands accompanied with threats and also promises to provide debt validation in the process. However, when debt validation is requested the collection agency can send irrelevant material or not respond at all and state that the company no longer works on the particular account. So, the student loan collection agencies are allowed to hit and run and move on to the next…

Office of Government Information Services (OGIS) Assistance Request

Because the Department of Education is not complying with the Freedom of Information (FOIA) request, I have to contact other agencies.

The latest FOIA request is a recent event. However, this case has been going on for over 5 years. This is an internal record making dispute that is not based on student loan lending and borrowing transactions. Instead, the dispute is based on internal records that were created after I graduated from college.…

Complaint #1 Against Action Financial Services LLC False Advertising and Breach of Contract (with Better Business Bureau)

For over 5 years I have had to dispute with the Department of Education an internal record making, usage and enforcement case. The Department of Education claims that I owe student loans, except that there is a problem with this claim – the loans do not exist. The Department of Education’s claims and demands are not based on actual student loan lending and borrowing transactions. Instead, the demands are based on internal records which, apparently, were created after I…

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, How Can We Resolve Problems by Putting Problem Makers in Charge?

The Department of Education’s operating model can be characterized as government bureaucracy that is combined with a monopoly that operates without any oversight. It is a dreadful combination. As a result, we also have an institution that is good at causing problems but has no genuine interest and ability to resolve them. Below are some real life examples.

What this also means is that the current government has enormous challenges to overcome. Government…

Action Financial Services LLC Debt Validation Request

Here’s an example of financial services industry related poor decision making skills that create problems instead of helping to resolve them. The Department of Education’s business partner Action Financial Services, LLC contacted me in 2016 with a collection letter regarding alleged student loans. This case has been going on since 2011 and has produced ample of evidence that no loans exist. So, I requested debt validation from Action Financial Services, LLC. Just like it has…

Open Letter to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos on Some King-Duncan Legacy Problems and on FOIA Request

Below is a follow-up open letter to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos on some problems that the current administration inherited from the previous one. As has been stated before, the problems are rather serious in nature: usage of extortion, involuntary servitude, document fabrication, bullying and abuse of power by the Department of Education employees. Further, as Secretaries of Education, both Mr. Duncan and Mr. King chose to leave the office without resolving the Department…

U.S. Department of Education Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request Odyssey – Is the Department of Education Managed Any Better Now?

When I first submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the U.S. Department of Education in 2013, the good people at the FOIA Unit invented all sorts of obstacles so that they could refuse to process my request. I had to submit the request 3 times in row and then contact the Secretary of Education, asking why the FOIA Unit refuses to process my request. I also included my case background information with the request. So, instead of using any standard forms, the…

U.S. Department of Education Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request

Below is a U.S. Department of Education Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. It’s one of several requests that I have submitted. In one instance, with a letter dated March 11, 2014, the FOIA Unit already stated that they "were unable to locate any records responsive to your request." Because the Department of Education’s unvalidated monetary demands continued, I had to continue my communication with the Department of Education as well, including the FOIA Unit. So, I asked…

Mr. John B. King Jr., Can We Address the Murder that You Committed?

From December of 2011, that is, at this point for 5 years, I have had to explain to people at the Department of Education that creating internal records without existence of actual lending and borrowing transactions does not create debt. This case has been documented on this website and provides a look into the Department of Education’s operations.

If we all could operate so, that we just write down somewhere that somebody owes us money, and that actually…
